100 years ago today...
It seems crazy to say but one hundred years ago today my Dad was born. He was 19 years older than my Mom but she always said he was the love of her life & best friend. He died just before I turned 6 from cancer & I have very few memories of him but one that is very clear is of my coming home from kindergarten & him asking me: "How was your day in the garden?" I know that he is spending his days now in God's garden & I can just see he & my mom strolling hand & hand through the blossoms. Happy Birthday Daddy!! Love, Laura

Crocheting Season
This time of year when it's cold & the warmth of home calls us inside I find myself reaching for a good book (I'm reading; "My Dearest Mr. Darcy" by Sharon Lathan at the moment) or my crochet hook. Right now I am making a lovely gray hat, soft & cozy!! Even Annika was doing a little stitching last night, she made a small purse from some felt & crocheted a nice long strap for it.
One of my favorite places for crocheting inspiration is the lovely blog Attic24 (http://attic24.typepad.com/) her color choices & patterns are so lively & beautiful. She is way beyond me & my skill level but I love to look & learn.
Have a cozy crafty day folks!!!

Good Morning Monday!!
Brrr. It is still so cold. I celebrated the cold yesterday by making a great pot of soup!!! It was a warm, creamy & chunky potato soup requested by my little lady. After our soup we climbed into bed and watched EMMA on Masterpiece Theater. I loved it & so did she. I'm very excited about the upcoming Austen novels that they will be showing. In honor of winter & trying to find something to like about her (other than Christmas, my son's birthday & fresh snow) here is a favorite poem that I love to read each winter.
Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening
BY ROBERT FROST
Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.
My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.
He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound’s the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.
The woods are lovely, dark and deep.
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.
**I should mention I also love hot chocolate with peppermint sticks that only seem appropriate in winter :)
